Andra will host two (2) optional technical site visits for participants to join on Thursday, November 16th, 2023 after the symposium concludes.
Technical Site Visit A - *NOTE - This trip is currently at full capacity. If you would like to be added to the wait list please email Lizz Mahoney.
Visit the nearby Meuse/Haute-Marne Underground Research Laboratory (URL) in Bure, which enables scientific and technological research for deep geological disposal in the Callovo-Oxfordian clay in a >2,000 m network of tunnels. Participants may also visit the nearby Environmental Specimen Bank (Ecothèque) and the Technological Exhibition Facility (ETe).Technical Site Visit B - This trip includes a visit to two nearby surface facilities for radioactive waste. With a footprint of 95 hectares, the CSA Waste Disposal Facility is licensed for the disposal of 1 million cubic meters of low- and intermediate-level, short-lived waste packages. A few kilometers away is the Cires Waste Collection, Storage, and Disposal Facility, which opened in 2003 for the disposal of very low-level radioactive waste.
Attendees will be able to sign up for either technical site visit options at registration for an additional fee of $40 which covers the cost of transportation and and lunch. Space is limited for each trip and will be available to registrants on a first-come, first-serve basis.
